I worked from 10:30 AM and during the afternoon on my webpage. I added new songs and I put a chatroom on my webpage: www.jaimemontoya.com/jaimemontoyaschatroom.html. After that I continued trying to install correctly Java plugin on my web browsers but I did a terrible thing:

# apt-get remove java*

I found it in a website but to do that is crazy! It destroyed completely my Linux system!!! I lost Linux operating system, and I had to install it again from the beginning. It helped me because I practiced installing Linux Debian etch. I did it from the Internet and using a CD with the basic kernel. When the basic kernel was installed, I did this:

# nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Then it opened the /etc/apt/sources.list file and I added this line at the end of the document:

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian etch main

That was to specify where the packages will be downloaded from.

Then I run this:

# apt-get update.

I still did not have a graphical environment, and I got it from the Internet downloading these packages:

# apt-get install xorg-* --> That's for video.
# apt-get install gnome --> That's for Gnome desktop environment.
#apt-get install xorg-x --> I am not sure what this is for, but I installed it.
# apt-get install gdm --> This is necessary in order to run graphical environment. I think it is for Linux user sessions.

Finally I had graphical session again and I was ready to use Linux Debian etch. It was good for me to practice again from the beginning how to install Linux from the Internet.

In my Bible reading, I finished Genesis 8 today.

About 10:30 or 11 AM I continued working on my Linux exercises for Operating Systems class. About 2:00 PM we started the soccer match with Sistemas F.C. against Cutucada. I played the whole game in left full back position. Edilberto Baños scored the first goal. Then Cutucada equalized the game. After that "Fosi" scored our second goal and the half was 2-1. In the second half, Edilberto scored his second goal and the third goal for Sistemas F.C., our team. But Cutucada equalized the game and suddendly the score was 3-3 at that moment. Finally we scored our fourth goal, and I think Crespín scored it. So we won 4-3 but it was not an easy game. We have gotten 3 points in 1 game, which is excellent. My brother was our goalkeeper and he played really well.

I was in my Logical and Computing Circuits class from 5:00 PM. At 6:30 PM I had my Accounting class. When coming back from university I continued working with my exercises on Linux for Operating Systems class and I sent my work.tar file with my exercises and all my work, including my .bash_history file and all the required files for this activity. So I uploaded my work.tar file at 23:42 to www.unico.edu.sv/moodle, and the time limit for uploading works was at 23:55.

I went to slept until about 6:30 or 7:00 AM because I worked from the beginning of this day on my Linux exercises for Operating Systems class. I have been learning many new things about Shell commands and how to work and program my own shell scripts. I continued working on my Linux exercises during the afternoon. At night I had Accounting class. I got 8.10 in my last exam, which represents 50% of the first period. I thought I was going to get 10.00, since I felt the exam was really easy, but my professor was a kind of strict on certain things and it made me lose points. So my grades for Accounting class in the first period are: 9.5 (25% of the period), 10.00 (25% of the period) and 8.1 (50% of the period). Accordingly my final score in the first period for Accounting class is 8.925. When coming back from university I continued working on my Linux exercises.

I worked on my Linux exercises until 3:00 AM and I learned a lot of new and useful things about Shell scripts. I practiced on Microsoft Access during the afternoon. At 5:30 PM I had my test Databases test at the computer lab on Access and I got 7. I had a terrible mistake, since I did not generate a table correctly, but at the end my grade was 7.0 even when I felt the exam was really easy and I should have gotten 10.0. Actually I got 5.0 at the beginning but after talking to my professor and explaining to him the way I did everything, he put 7.0 as my final grade, and it represents 50% of the first period on my Databases class. After that I had my Logical and Computing Circuits class at 6:30 PM. When coming back from university I continued working on my Linux exercises.

At noon I had my Operating Systems exam at university, but it was at the computer lab and the exam was online, from www.unico.edu.sv/moodle. I got 7, and it represents 50% of the first period for me. When coming back from university I worked during the afternoon and part of the night on my website, loading a lot of songs by Enya on my radio.blog.club section. After that I worked on my Operating Systems exercises about Shell scripting on Linux, and I learned a lot. One of my uncles called by phone tonight from California and I talked to him. It was great to hear him again.

I tried to run Java applets from my web browsers on Linux Debian 4.0 etch but I couldn't even when I installed well Java plugins and they appear as installed when I type "about:plugins". I don't know the reason why it does not work. I gave up at 12:30 AM because I can't do anything else to make it work. It is weird because I did everything well. Then I studied Databases until 4:00 AM, then I went to sleep and I woke up at 12:30 PM. In the afternoon I studied Databases. At 4:50 PM. I had Operating Systems class. At 7:00 PM I had my Databases exam, which represents 50% of the first period. When coming back from university I worked on my new Linux exercises. I finished 2 exercises, but in total I have 16, and I have to send them before August 29th, 11:55 PM.

In the afternoon I chatted with a cousin we talked about the resurrection. At night I started to study scripts on Linux but later I spent the whole night trying to install Java plugin for my Linux web browsers, but even when I did everything well and Java was correctly installed, it was not possible to see a Java applet from my web browser. It is really weird because when I typed "about:plugins" in my web browser, Java appears enabled but when I tried to load a Java applet, it does not send me the "plugin missing" message, but I can't load. It was really weird.

I slept until 10:30 AM. I studied Accounting from 11:15 AM and during the afternoon. At 4:55 PM I had my Logic Circuits and of Computing class and we solved two tests we had. Finally my grades are: 2.7 in the first exam (25% of the first period), 8.0 in the second exam (25% of the first period) and 4.7 in the last exam (50% of the first period). Accordingly, I failed this class with about 5.0 in the first period. But I have courage and faith that God will let me pass this class at the end, and I really want to pass it well, not too worried like needing high grades to pass. I must get at least 7.5 in the second period, but it would be best to get 8 or 8.5, if possible. Getting 7 would let me have 6 as my average, but I don't know if the third semester will have hard evaluations, so I must get a really good result in my second period. 5.0 is really bad, but it could have been worse, so I should be grateful and to work hard to get better results in my next evaluations for this class. At 6:30 PM I had my Accounting test and I felt it really easy, since it had some questions that I felt really easy and the 70% of the test was an exercise of a General Balance, and I got all the results well done, since I proved it with the formula A = P + C. I studied Databases class when coming back from university.

I worked on Linux until 7 AM, and I solved my online exam for Operating Systems class. I did my second and third chances. In the second one I got 6.67 and in the third one I got 6.0. So my final score is 6.67. I thought my grade was going to be higher, but I am not sure what I did wrong in my answers, since I checked all carefully. I slept from 7 AM to 11:50 AM. In the afternoon I worked on a General Balance for my Accounting class. I had Accounting class at 6:45 PM.

I studied Logical and Computin Circuits until 12:00 AM. From 11:10 AM and in the afternoon I studied Logical Circuits and of Computing. At 5:25 PM I had my Databases practice class and I we worked on relations and stuff on Access. At 6:35 I started my Logical Circuits and of Computing, which represents 50% of the first period. I think I got about 5.6 in my exam today, but I will know when I finally receive my grade. I am getting really bad results on this class and I will have to improve if I want to approve well this class. I don't want to be worried at the end, so I really have to get excellent grades on my future evaluations for this class. I had my first try for my online test of Operating Systems and it was all about Linux Shell. I got 6 in my first try, it means 9 correct answers of 15. I have 2 more chances and I will try to improve my grade tomorrow, but opportunities will expire until next Wednesday at 8:00 AM at www.unico.edu.sv/moodle.

I went to sleep at 2:00 AM because I was watching a video about logic gates and learning how to design circuits from NAND gates, and I also studied about digital and analogic signals.

At 12:25 PM I was in my Operating Systems class, and we worked on Linux commands. I stayed there for the next practice at 2:00 PM for the other group (since my class is divided in 2 groups for classes at the computer lab). We learned nice things about permissions for users on Linux, how to let other users to use the CD-ROM or even an USB flash memory (since by default it is not permitted for a new user that has been created). So I learned very good things. I continued studying Linux at home when coming back from university and at night.

I went to sleep about 1 AM because I was solving the guide of exercises that I have for my Operating Systems class. It's all about using the Shell on Linux and about creating scripts. I woke up at 10:00 AM. In the afternoon I worked with some friends on the exercises we have for Operating Systems class. At night I finally sent my exercises solved to my professor's email and I upload them on http://www.unico.edu.sv/moodle. I learned a lot by working on Linux all day long. After sending the homework exercises for Operating Systems class, I installed VMWare and wowwww, I am really impressed or totally astounded! VMWare is impressive. I can run many operating systems with the virtual machine tool. I installed Windows 2000, since I had to make some tests about permissions and users on Windows 2000 as a homework for my Operating Systems class. It is wonderful to have this tool. Now I can run Windows 2000 from Windows XP. I can also run some Linux versions from Windows XP using the virtual machine VMWare. This is amazing, I am really impressed, I never imagined that it would exist a tool like that, and I could also run Windows from a MAC, or Windows from Linux, etc. Wow, it is really amazing. I worked a lot on Operating Systems today, and I learned a lot. It was a productive day for me when it refers to my Operating Systems learning.

I went to sleep about 2:00 AM because I was working on the exercises I have to solve on Linux for my Operating System class. I woke up at 10:00 AM. I studied Logical and Computing Circuits. I had my second test of Logical and Computing Circuits. I did not feel it was difficult, but I had a terrible mistake when considering 27 as a prime number, haha, I had to design a logic gate to work only for numbers between 20 and 28, and I chose 23 and 27 to design the Truth Table and the formula of the circuit. So I lost 25% of the final score for that mistake, unless professor consider to give me some percentage for the work I did with the Truth Table. I did all the other exercises and I do not consider I failed, but I will know when I receive my grade. I needed a really high grade on this test, since my first grade was 2.3 and I had to improve with the exam I had today. But my new chance is next Monday with the other exam that will be 50% of the first period. I spent 50% of the first period on my first 2 exams, but next Monday if I get a really high grade, it will help me a lot because the exam that I'll do next Monday has a high value and it is very important for me, and for my final score on this class. I had Accounting class after the exam, and I received my grade for the second test and I got 10, so 9.5 in the first test and 10 in the second one. I have a really high score in Accounting class right now! I want to take some points from my Accounting grade to give them to my Logical and Computing Circuits grade, haha, but I can't obviously. I worked on my Linux exercises when coming back from university.

From the beginning of the day until about 5:00 or 5:30 AM I worked on the creation of the covers for each of the 10 topics of “Anuario 2006”, a document of UNICO university. That’s what I am doing for my social work at university. After that I updated my website with 4 new links: the first one to Biblegateway.com, the second one to Gospelcom.net, the third one to Live Radio 91.3 WCSG, and the last one to His Kids Radio. After that I ate something and I went to sleep about 6:00 AM. I woke up at 11:30 AM. I created a new section for my webpage, which is called “radio.blog.club”, and it’s a section where I will be putting music for people to hear from my website, and this is the link: http://www.jaimemontoya.com/radioblogclub.html.

I had Databases class at 5:00 PM, and we worked on Access. After that I had my Logical Circuits and of Computing at 6:30 PM. Professor Andaluz showed us in general how to use Circuit Maker program to design logic gates and then we watched a video about Logic gates. When coming back home I ate and finally I studied Access. I started this day writing to Yahoo! GeoCities Pro Custumer Support because I was not able to establish a connection with my MySQL database from the PHP script I did. So I went to sleep at 1:00 AM. I woke up at 10:00 AM. I had Operating Systems class at the computer lab from 12:15 PM to 1:50 PM. Then I wanted to be again in the Operating Systems class for the other group (since we are divided in two groups for our classes at the computer lab), then I received again the class from 2:00 PM to 3:40 or 3:50 PM. We learned about using the Shell on Linux, and some important commands for working on Linux but using the Shell, not only the graphic environment. It was a very good class. When I came back home, I focused completely on trying to establish a connection between a web form for people to leave me comments, questions or suggestions from my webpage, and my MySQL database. I tried to find the problem on my PHP script, and finally I found that I did not have to write my URL as my localhost, but I had to write the word “mysql”. After some days trying to achieve this goal, I’m really excited and happy because it was possible to do it. Now people can leave me comments, questions or suggestions from my website just by writing on the web form and clicking on Send button. Information sent by people will be stored on my MySQL database, and I’m administering it with phpMyAdmin. Wow, finally I was able to do it. It was not easy because I had many problems, but finally my PHP script works perfectly with my MySQL database created with phpMyAdmin tool. This is something great for me, and it has a special meaning because it was made by myself. Now Jaime Montoya’s Comments Page is working and this is the proof, haha: http://www.jaimemontoya.com/comments.php. Also, part of the proof will be that I’ll answer personalized emails to anyone who send me comments from Jaime Montoya’s Comments Page. I did not imagine that I would be able to achieve in a few hours what I was not able to do in about 4 or maybe 5 days that I have been trying to make this work. It finally works!!! I’m so excited and I’m glad because now people can send me messages not only to my email, but also to my MySQL database, just by sending comments, questions, suggestions or messages in general from Jaime Montoya’s Home Page! What a great day! Achieving this made August 11th a really cool day for me.

I spent the whole afternoon working on Linux Debian 4 etch. I learned how to install Flash plugin on my Linux Debian 4 etch, but it was not easy at the beginning and I had a lot of touble, but finally after trying a lot, I was able to install the Flash plugins and I can already see Flash animations on the Internet from my browsers working on Linux. I also installed OpenOffice, and it was easy by using #apt-get install openoffice.org. I have been getting experience working on Linux, just learning basic things but important at the same time. At night I studied Logical Circuits and of Computing, since exam is next week and I must get a high grade on my second exam, because my grade on the first test was terrible, so I have to do my best effort on my second test and in all the other exams. Each exam is very important, so I have to work hard. I also started to read Genesis today, about The Creation in Genesis chapter 1, and it’s cool to read from the Bible. I love to read my NIV Bible.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Today I woke up around 9:30 AM. I studied Accounting and Logical and Computing Circuits at the end of the morning and in the afternoon. I had my Logical Circuits and of Computing class at 5:00 PM, and it was good, I understood everything. But I received my grade for the exam I did on July 30th, and wow, I got 2.3! It feels really bad receiving a grade like this, especially when I had studied and I think I was well prepared for this exam in general. But professor Andaluz ignored one exercise with the right answer, and it would have increased a wee bit my grade, like 0.25 points. In addition, there are 2 other exercises that I will ask him to check again, and it would increase my grade 1.25 points. So in total I would have 3.85 as my final grade on this exam, which is still a terrible grade, but better than 2.3. I’ll ask him to recheck my solutions and hopefully he will consider my situation, but even when I know he could easily say no, the best I can do is to try. Anyway 2.3, 2.55 or 3.85 is a really bad (terrible) way to begin. I know I am in trouble with this class right now. But instead of being too worried, I have to study hard and to have faith that God is in control of all steps of my life, even simple things, significant things, important things, transcendental things or anything in my life. It feels wonderful to know that no matter what, God is there teaching us always good things and understanding our situations, and helping us. I need God’s help now, since I don’t want to be getting bad grades and then being too worried at the end. The best thing is to get excellent or very good grades at the beginning so at the end I have all of my classes passed. I’ll do my best, and I need God’s help now, as I will need His help all the semester long. After the Logical Circuits and of Computing class I had my second Accounting lab. In the first one I got 9.5, and this one was completely easy, and I even think I got 10. It was very very easy, I mean too easy, and I would be surprised if I get less than 9 in this exam, since I think my grade will be 10. I would like to share some of the points I have in Accounting class to Logical Circuits and of Computing class, hehe, that would be great for me right now, haha. After the exam I went with Javier, my brother and Lorena to Lorena’s house to eat cake for Lorena’s sister birthday. Actually, it was the first time I saw Lorena’s sister, but since I was with my brother, I was invited too. She lives 1 block away from UNICO university.

When coming back from school, I solved the exam (the one I got 2.3), and after solving it, I saw my mistakes, and hopefully the professor will consider my petition for increasing my grade, after rechecking my solutions. It will be something good for me to increase my grade, even if it is a little bit or a wee bit at least. But I will see professor Andaluz until next Monday, when I have my next class. Hopefully he still agrees to recheck my test. We will see. That was all today.

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

I started this day working at the computer, then I went to sleep and I woke up about 10:00 AM I think. In the afternoon I spent my time working on my website, trying to configure phpMyAdmin to work on MySQL database from my webpage. I received an answer from Yahoo! GeoCities Customer Care, and I was having problems to use phpMyAdmin because the latest version of Mozilla Firefox has some kind of problems, then I have to use Internet Explorer for using phpMyAdmin with my GeoCities Pro account. I had Accounting class at night. When coming back from school and after dinner, I continued to work on my webpage, trying to connect PHP with MySQL database (using phpMyAdmin). What I wanted to do is to use a web form in my website for people to leave me comments, questions or suggestions. Accordingly, my idea was that when the visitors write a message for me and they click on Send button, the message should go directly to the MySQL database, so I created a php script to connect with MySQL database, and I created the database with phpMyAdmin. But I was not able to reach my purpose. I’m not sure why data was not successfully sent to my database from my website, since the script is supposed to be okay, and the database too. I’ll have to make sure the connection was correctly established or to find out what was the problem, but maybe another day, since August 7th, 2007 is over and I have to sleep and be grateful because God gave me the privilege of finishing one more day.

I woke up very late in the morning, but in the afternoon and night I spent my day studying Operating Systems, and it was great to work on GNU/Linux Debian etch, which is the one I am using. I practiced a lot how to move on directories, check and assign permissions for files and directories or folders, and I even wrote my own article where I explain how to assign permissions on Linux, and it’s available from my website. I also tried to configure and use phpMyAdmin for working with a database from my website, but I couldn’t. Hopefully Yahoo! Customer Care will answer to me and let me know if something is not working properly or if I am a kind of confused. They don’t really offer support for phpMyAdmin or MySQL problems, but they can let me know the way they link the service with Yahoo! Geocities Pro, which is the plan I am paying for. It was a Linux day for me, hehe, I practiced and learned nice things, and I was able to work on my website from Linux, which is great because I don’t depend on Windows operating system to update and work on my webpage. I had a good day.

I woke up at 8:00 AM at Hotel y Estación Bella Vista in Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala. We took our breakfast with my father Roberto, my aunt Blanky and Alejandro my brother. Then we went to the service at church, and it began at 10:00 AM. We celebrated The Lord’s Supper, and then Pastor Mauricio Ramírez talked about being free in Jesus Christ, and about not feeling guilty from sin or wrong things we did in the past. After the service in Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala, we came back to El Salvador. From Las Chinamas frontier we went to Juayúa, Sonsonate, already in El Salvador, and we ate our lunch there. After that we came back home, and my aunt Blanky went to San Sanvador to her house.

I started to read the HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION at night. I studied Accounting class all night. I finished the day really tired and all I wanted to do is to sleep. It was a very good day, and I’m glad we came back home without problems.

Saturday, August 4, 2007

I can say that August 4th, 2007, is really a turning point in my life. I’m 21 years old and I have had so many good experiences and blessings from God since I was born of course, but from today I decided to have something like a new beginning in my life, with a different vision and a good purpose to obey Jesus and to do what is right. That’s why my Personal Diary begins from now as well, and I’m going to be publishing all of my memories (my Diary) on the Internet from this day.

I woke up very early in the morning, like at 3:00 AM to practice well my sermon for preaching at tonight. Alejandro, my father Roberto, my mother, and my aunt Blanky went with me to Guatemala, since Pastor Mauricio Ramírez invited me to preach tonight in the church he is leading in Barberena. We had our lunch in Super Selectos, Ahuachapán, and then we went to Las Chinamas frontier, so finally we went to Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala. We all went in my aunt Blanky’s car. I preached a message called “Los Estándares del Mundo no son los Estándares de Dios” (the whole sermon is available on my website by the way). I really liked the message, not because I preached it, but because I learned a lot of practical and good spiritual things to apply in my life, and everyone learned too, they liked the message and we had a dinner together at church after the service. We began the service at 7:15 PM and it finished at 8:30 PM, and then we ate. After that we went to the hotel, called Hotel y Estación Bella Vista, located in Kilómetro 52.5 Carretera a El Salvador, Barberena, Santa Rosa. It is a nice hotel, not too expensive, but very clean and with good accommodations, so it was a perfect place to sleep and it’s like 2 minutes away from the church by the way, which is wonderful.

Today I had the best day of my life (so far). I hope to have in the future as good days as the one that I had today. I felt great preaching, and I will never forget this special day in my life. I can totally say that August 4th, 2007 is a turning point for me, and I’m going to consider that this is the first day of my new life, I mean this life with new purposes and a sincere heart to do what is right, with a great relationship with God and my total will to work hard for achieving good goals, according to all what God has designed and has prepared to me. This is all what I’ll write today, in the inauguration of my Personal Diary, but I’ll continue writing tomorrow and every day, since today until I finish my life, I mean my life here as a Earthling, haha, since I know I’m a heaven’s citizen, and my real citizenship is in heaven, not here (that’s what I talked about in the sermon tonight). I’ll do my best to keep a good record of my life in this Diary, but God is taking the best record for all what I do, haha. Accordingly, I know my compromise is to live every day loving Jesus, and loving people. Bye for now.
