I studied Emerging Technologies and memorized for some minutes something about ports that should not be open so that hackers cannot attack us. I finished studying until about 5:00 AM. In the morning I had an evaluation of some questions about the presentation I had last Saturday, and I answered one question but there was another one that I could not answer well. At 10:15 AM I had the final Systems Production Techniques test of the first period, and I did not feel that it was that hard, but accessible for anyone who studied. In the afternoon I had my final Emerging Technologies test of the first period, and I did my best. I better wait for my grade because I can't say anything about this class right now. But I did my best, I studied a lot and I believe that I can pass it even when it is very hard for me and I think for all of my classmates too. The first period of this semester is over. These are the grades that I have so far:

First Period
The presentation about Internet2 (40% of the period) = 10.00
The practical test I had today about creating a domain, users for the domain, ipconfig, ping, TCP/IP (10% of the period) = 10.00

Emerging Technologies
First Period
The written test with 2 questions (25% of the period) = 5.00
The written test with 3 questions (25% of the period) = 5.00

Informatics Projects
First Period
The paper about PowerBuilder and Toad(25% of the period)=10.00
Written lab with 5 questions(25% of the pediod)=10.00

I studied Informatics Projects class for about one hour in the morning and during the afternoon. At 6:30 PM I had the the Informatics Project final test of the first period. I felt it was pretty easy, so I think I'll get a high grade.

For about 3.5 or 4 hours at the dawn I studied a questionnaires for the Networking test I had tonight, and I continued studying that in the morning for about 1 or 1.5 hours and again in the afternoon for like 2 hours, and after that I studied a little general things about the chapter one of CCNA Cisco material. My Networking final test of the first period was at 6:30 PM and I answered all the questions and I think my grade will be high. I was not very secure about one of my answers, so when coming back home I did some research and I realized that my answer was not wrong. I used 192.168.147.1 as the IP address and 255.255.0.0 as the subnet mask. But since 192.168.147.1 is a class C address, 255.255.255.0 should be the subnet mask. But I found that it is also possible to use 255.255.0.0. So my answer was not wrong. But yeah in the exam I thought about using 255.255.255.0, since I knew that I was using a class C address. But I decided to use 255.255.0.0 because I remembered that I tried it like this before. But the point is that it was not a wrong answer. Great. In the exam I had a few mistakes though. Anyway I think my grade will be high, but I better wait until I receive my grade.

I worked until like 2:00 AM on my website. There are two changes I did:

1. The clock appearing in the left side on the index page is different now. I personalized it with my name, logo, and a different clock style.
2. I put a favicon on my index page (the little image next to the URL).

In the morning I studied Emerging Technologies stuff for like 1.5 hours. In the afternoon I studied again Emerging Technologies for about 30 minutes. After that from around 4:00 PM until 11:00 PM I worked on my website doing my own Flash banner for my index page. I did it because I had a free banner before and I wanted to have my own one. So I am glad that I finally did that and I put my Flash skills to work. Now it looks better and the way I want it. I can change it whenever I want and the way I want. The only boundaries are my Flash skills. But I am improving my Flash skills more and more, since it is a very important software to master nowadays.

I studied for like 1 hour or less at the dawn for my Emerging Technologies test. At 8:00 AM I had a presentation about CMDB at Systems Production Techniques, and during the morning I stayed at that class watching the presentations from other students. In the afternoon I had Emerging Technologies class and at 4:15 PM I had a test. Well I think I got 5, I am almost sure that I got 5, but I better wait until I know the official results from the professor. This class is hard because of the evaluation method that is being used for evaluating us. Anyway I do my best and I am satisfied with my work, but it does not matter when talking about results. The point is that I need to improve somehow, since at the end for passing or failing the class what matters are my grades.

I finished installing operating systems for my laptop before 2:00 AM and I just made a questionnaire about Internet2 for Networking class. From about 2:00 AM until 2:45 I studied for my Informatics Projects test that I have today. In the afternoon I went to an interview for changing the work for the scholarship that I am doing at the university. I did not want to continue working at the library introducing books into a database but I wanted to do something else, where I can apply more directly my computer science knowledge, not just to type stuff, etc. So I will work designing a website, which will take me time but I will enjoy it more. I feel great because I won't continue working at the library typing authors, editorials and everything about books into a database. I was felting like unproductive doing that. In the afternoon I studied at the library for the Informatics Projects that I had at 5:00 PM. I felt that it was pretty easy, I studied during the afternoon and I remember everything in the test, so I really think I got a very high grade, hopefully 10.

Yesterday it was frustrating how everything was messed up with the installation of operating systems and with practicing for the Networking practical test. But today everything worked really really great! Yesterday was like a "bad day" and today I had a great day! From 12:00 to 1:00 I just found the solution of the problem I had yesterday: my network card was not installed on my laptop and that is why the connections were not working. So I just downloaded a file from a Dell site ( R149798.EXE (4725KB) file) and everything worked out. For about 1.5 hours in the morning and during the entire afternoon I continued practicing for the Networking card and at night I had the test, and everything worked out really great! I got 10.00, the test was about configuring TCP/IP, installing a domain on Windows Server 2003, creating users for the domain, and logging in or starting a session on Windows XP (from VMWare Virtual Machine) using the account created, the one belonging to the domain. Everything worked out really great. These are my grades at the university so far:

I worked until 3:00 AM practicing stuff about creating domains with Windows Server 2003 and adding users to the created domain using Windows XP Professional on a Virtual Machine. Everything worked out great. But in the afternoon and at night everything was messed up. Nothing worked properly after so many times trying and trying and trying again. I even had to uninstall and install again operating systems, ranging from Windows XP Professional to Linux Debian Etch, including Windows Server 2003 and I even lost Windows Vista, which I have to install again or see if I have a way to recover it. What a terrible afternoon and night, I felt that I lost so long of my time and things did not work at all. It would have been best to let everything the way it was at 3:00 AM and do something else in and afternoon and at night, but I never imagined that nothing would work. What a frustrating and boring time trying to solve these problems, the IPs were not recognized, etc. etc. etc. Anyway, not all days are as good as we want, but I did my best and that is what matters. Tomorrow should be a good day for me. Not all goods are great for us, but not all days are terrible for us either.

I worked on my webpage (publishing stuff about Internet2) from midnight until 4:45 PM. I was not supposed to take so long just doing that, but I had problems with a page and I fixed everything at the end and published stuff about Internet2 at Networking section. I also had problems uploading a file with FTP. In the afternoon I continued working for like 1.5 hours trying to solve the problem with FTP that I had, and I finally solved that problem. Then for about 2.5 hours in the afternoon and at night I worked on a paper for Informatics Projects class. I investigated about PowerBuilder program.

I studied Emerging Techniques class from 12:00 AM until 3:35 AM. In the morning I had Systems Production Techniques and in the afternoon Emerging class and also a test on this class. I think I will get maximum 5.0 or probably even 0.0. Well hopefully 5.0. This class is always so hard because of the evaluations, the test just had two questions again like the last semester I had class with this professor, but anyway I do my best and I studied hard. At night I continued working a little on a paper due next Monday for Networking class (the presentation of my teamwork).

I worked from 2:40 PM until 4:40 PM on the library at UNICAES introducing book's profiles to a database. This is something I have to do this semester because of the half-scholarship I own. From 4:45 PM until 6:30 PM I was at Informatics Projects class, and from 6:40 to 7:00 PM again helping at the library (now carrying books and putting them back to their corresponding place). At night I studied Emerging Technologies class because it is likely that I have a test tomorrow.

I worked until about 3:00 AM on a paper about Internet2. In the afternoon I started to work on a Flash presentation about Internet2, and I continued doing that at night. I'm glad that I am doing something different with Flash now, something that looks better than what I could do before with Flash. I am improving at least a wee bit or a little bit at using and mastering Flash. But I still have to learn a lot and of course to put my creativity to work, since that is what Flash is all about. But I hope this presentation about Internet2 can be finished well and that I can get an excellent grade on my presentation with my teamwork next Monday.

I went to "Consuma 2008" (in San Salvador) with my parents and brother. I bought an MP4, which will help me to hear spoken English. My plan is to download podcast from the BBC or from any other site from where I can download audio with people talking in English, so that I can improve my English skills. My plan is to hear people talking, not just music in English but people talking like conversations in English or lessons like English Learning from the BBC for example. The idea is to listen to spoken English, since living in El Salvador does not offer opportunities enough to talk to people in English, but this way I can learn, and I keep on reading books in English and looking up for every single word that I don't understand in my dictionaries. So I do my best to learn more English every day.

At night we went to dinner with my family to "El Imperio Celeste" Chinese food in La Libertad, a few blocks away from Plaza Merliot in La Libertad. The food is delicious there.

I studied about Internet2 for about 4.5 hours during the dawn until almost 6:00 AM. In the afternoon the director of the computer labs at UNICAES talked to the team I am working with about Internet2 at our university, and he explained in general how it works, etc. At 5:00 PM I had Informatics Projects class. At night I studied for about 3 hours Emerging Technologies stuff for my class tomorrow (and because it is possible that I have a test in that class, since the professor uses the "surprise exam" technique.

I finished watching the last video tutorials from www.illasaron.com at 1:45 AM. From 2:30 until 4:40 AM I formatted my laptop and installed Windows XP Professional edition and Windows Server 2003 on it. In the afternoon I also installed in my laptop Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. I had Informatics Projects class at night.
